Hyundai Eyes Avalanche Expansion After Successful Stablecoin Payments Pilot

Key takeaways:

  • Avalanche's enterprise push could accelerate institutional stablecoin adoption if Hyundai proves treasury-scale settlement.
  • Seven-minute USDT settlement threatens traditional banking fees, but regulatory and liquidity risks remain unresolved.
  • Watch AVAX for speculation, but real value needs repeated treasury flows, not pilot hype.

Hyundai Card is moving to scale its corporate cross-border payment operations on the Avalanche network after completing a successful stablecoin pilot. Heejung Nam, head of payments and business development at Hyundai Card, confirmed the company is evaluating whether the architecture can support large-scale treasury volumes, stating: “We have to prove the entire operation model works at scale. What happens if we can scale up? Then the economic model works.”

The pilot, conducted with Tether, Axiom, and Avalanche, saw Hyundai Motor America transfer corporate funds in USDT to Hyundai Motor México. The full settlement and fiat conversion process was completed in about seven minutes, dramatically faster than the three to four hours typical of traditional banking channels.

No date has been set for global commercial deployment, but the initiative is seen as a key precedent for institutional adoption of decentralized finance and blockchain-based corporate settlement.
