Key takeaways:

  • MOEX's BTC and ETH perps offer ruble-settled crypto beta without direct asset custody risk.
  • Adding SOL, XRP, TRX perps signals demand for altcoin hedging among qualified Russian investors.
  • Watch regulatory risk: no physical delivery limits broader adoption despite rising MOEX derivatives turnover.

Moscow Exchange (MOEX), Russia’s primary securities and derivatives marketplace, has confirmed that it will launch five cash-settled perpetual futures contracts tied to cryptocurrency indexes on September 22, 2026. The new instruments will track the exchange’s indexes for Bitcoin (BTCUSDF), Ether (ETHUSDF), Solana (SOLUSDF), XRP (XRPUSDF) and Tron (TRXUSDF), according to MOEX’s official announcement on September 16.

The contracts will be restricted to qualified investors. They are structured as one-day futures with automatic rollover and will be quoted in U.S. dollars but settled in Russian rubles, meaning traders do not receive or deliver the underlying digital assets. The exchange said the K1 parameter will be set at 0% and K2 at 0.35% under its funding calculation specification.

MOEX said more than 72,000 qualified investors have traded its digital-asset futures since the exchange began offering crypto-linked contracts, with cumulative turnover exceeding 600 billion rubles. Bitcoin and Ether index futures began trading in November 2025, while contracts tied to Solana, XRP and Tron followed on May 14, 2026.

Maria Patrikeeva, managing director of the MOEX derivatives market, called the launch “an important milestone in the development of the Russian derivatives market,” citing strong investor demand for digital-asset derivatives.

The move expands Russia’s regulated crypto derivatives framework, which already limits cryptocurrency-linked products to qualified investors and does not permit physical delivery of digital assets. It also follows Russia’s September 1, 2026 rules allowing broader but capped direct cryptocurrency access through regulated intermediaries.
