Key takeaways:

  • World Money's Stripe and Kalshi integrations could drive WLD utility demand beyond speculative token trading.
  • World ID verification may become a regulatory moat as AI-driven fake accounts threaten stablecoin compliance.
  • WLD's modest 4% gain suggests launch optimism is priced, while Morpho's yield risks cap upside.

World, the identity project formerly known as Worldcoin, officially launched its financial super app World Money on September 17, 2026, in more than 150 countries. The self-custodial application brings together stablecoin payments, investments, yield opportunities and virtual accounts, with support for balances in eight currencies. Funds remain under user control, and World does not take custody of assets.

A major piece of the launch is the Stripe integration, which allows users in the United States to convert money from Apple Pay into stablecoins, typically within minutes. World Money also connects to Kalshi for regulated prediction markets and to Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol, for variable and non-guaranteed yield. Virtual accounts provided through Stripe-owned Bridge can receive payroll deposits and bank transfers that are automatically converted into stablecoins. World cautioned that Earn balances are not bank deposits or FDIC-insured accounts and that users could lose some or all deposited funds.

Identity verification through World ID is central to the product. Verified users receive a limited-time boost on eligible Earn programs. The company said: “Money moves differently when accounts belong to real people. As AI makes fake accounts cheaper and more convincing, a network of humans becomes something that payment rails cannot fake.” Tools for Humanity, co-founded by Alex Blania and OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, oversees the project. World’s path to this launch included adding crypto payments and chat features in March 2025, followed by Circle launching native USDC on the platform to replace a bridged version. At the time of the announcement, WLD was trading around $0.38, up about 4% over 24 hours.
