A large cryptocurrency whale has executed a notable portfolio rotation, converting a substantial Bitcoin position into Ethereum and immediately staking the acquired tokens. According to on-chain analytics platform Lookonchain, the investor sold 1,107 Bitcoin worth approximately $86.76 million through Hyperliquid over a five-day period. The whale then purchased 34,422 Ethereum for roughly $86.5 million and proceeded to stake the entire ETH position, removing it from immediate market availability.
The move stands out because staking signals a longer-term commitment rather than a short-term trade, although analysts caution that a single transaction does not confirm a wider capital rotation from Bitcoin to Ethereum. At the time of the activity, Bitcoin was trading near $81,500 and testing resistance between $81,500 and $82,000. A decisive breakout above that zone could extend BTC’s recovery, while another rejection could send it back toward support between $79,000 and $80,000.
Ethereum displayed stronger relative momentum after breaking above its consolidation range between $2,400 and $2,550. ETH traded near $2,649 and briefly reached $2,700 intraday, facing resistance between $2,700 and $2,750. Market data during the comparable session showed ETH gaining around 3% versus Bitcoin’s approximately 1% advance, providing context for the whale’s allocation. Still, broader confirmation would require similar moves from other large wallets before a sustained preference for Ethereum over Bitcoin can be identified.
