Trueo Migrates Prediction Markets From Base to Ethereum, Drawing Vitalik Buterin Praise

Key takeaways:

  • Trueo's Ethereum pivot may boost TRUE credibility, but its tiny $796K TVL limits liquidity impact.
  • Vitalik's praise could attract Ethereum-aligned users, yet unclear contracts leave execution risk unresolved.
  • Watch whether TRUE incentives on Ethereum can overcome Base's low-fee advantage in prediction markets.

Onchain prediction market protocol Trueo has announced plans to move its primary deployment from the Coinbase-incubated Base Layer 2 to the Ethereum mainnet, citing deeper integration potential, stronger network effects, and a better fit for a permissionless, largely immutable product.

Trueo launched on Base in March 2025, when Ethereum mainnet gas fees were still elevated. In its Monday migration announcement, the project said Base served as a useful sandbox during that experimental period, but argued that Ethereum now provides a more neutral and predictable foundation. Trueo stated: "The final form of Trueo is to be a platform that is widely adopted, broadly integrated, fully permissionless, mostly immutable, and highly credible. Ethereum is the best fit for this combination of properties."

Existing users will not see an immediate shutdown of the Base application. Trueo said markets expiring during 2026 can still be created on Base, while existing markets will continue operating under their current settlement system. The cutoff for creating new Base markets with expirations after January 31, 2027 is the key transition date; longer-dated markets should wait for the Ethereum instance. Trading, market resolution, and redemptions will continue during the migration, and TYD used as collateral will keep earning yield.

TRUE, the protocol's governance and oracle token, will move to Ethereum through an open-ended migration with no deadline announced. Trueo said future staking and liquidity incentives will operate on Ethereum once the new deployment is live. Public data shows the migration is not yet complete: Trueo's official deployment documentation still lists Base mainnet contracts, and DefiLlama's Sept. 22 snapshot attributes all $796,126.31 of tracked TVL and $9,727.92 in DEX volume over 30 days to Base.

Trueo also said it will use the Ethereum deployment to focus on attracting liquidity in key market categories and shipping a next-generation oracle system for disputed prediction-market outcomes. The current optimistic resolution process includes a 12-hour challenge period, an Oracle Council arbitration stage, escalation to TRUE holders, and a final round of 11 randomly selected attesters. Market definitions are committed onchain as immutable strings, and the protocol prohibits markets that create incentives for violence, terrorism, self-harm, or other dangerous conduct.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin publicly welcomed the move on X, saying he was glad Ethereum L1 would have a new prediction market contender "dedicated to decentralization, and being ethical and not corposlop," and actually trying to do interesting and meaningful things with prediction markets. His comments did not announce any Ethereum Foundation partnership, grant, investment, or formal arrangement. The praise follows months of Buterin criticism of prediction-market products that he says have become overly focused on short-duration crypto price wagers and sports betting.

The announcement did not provide a launch date or publish Ethereum contract addresses. Trueo also did not mention specific rivals, but its comments on dispute resolution come after two traders sued Polymarket in July over a market resolving whether Strategy would sell bitcoin by May 31. The traders argued that Polymarket changed the market's terms post-resolution. Trueo said its ambition is to build prediction markets that people can rely on even when outcomes are contentious, and described migration to Ethereum mainnet as the necessary next step.
