Binance is supporting Zilliqa’s migration to its EVM network as the legacy ZIL transaction system is retired after a Ledger signing flaw led to at least 683.13 million ZIL being stolen. The exchange will migrate ZIL from legacy Zilliqa mainnet addresses to Zilliqa EVM at a 1:1 ratio and handle the technical process for users.
Deposits and withdrawals through the legacy Zilliqa network have been suspended on Binance since Aug. 5 at 01:00 UTC. Once migration is complete, Binance will open ZIL deposits and withdrawals through Zilliqa EVM without a separate announcement, while legacy ZIL deposit and withdrawal support ends. ZIL spot trading, margin trading, futures, and Binance Earn products remain available during the process.
The retirement follows a vulnerability in Zilliqa’s Ledger application that affected native, non-EVM transactions signed with Ledger devices. Zilliqa’s Aug. 20 post mortem said the app incorrectly copied generated data into the signing buffer, leaving the top 64 bits of each nonce fixed at zero. That reduced randomness allowed private key reconstruction from multiple public signatures. The flaw existed in every released version of the Zilliqa Ledger app between 2019 and 2026. The first proven theft occurred on March 4, activity increased in July, and KuCoin notified Zilliqa on July 19 after unusual cold wallet outflows. Legacy transactions were disabled on July 20.
At least 683.13 million ZIL were stolen across 66 transactions, with 6,772 accounts exposed and 51 drained. Zilliqa calls these minimum confirmed totals. Exchange migrations have been carried out in batches: the first hard fork on Sept. 2 included KuCoin, MEXC, OKCoin, Binance US, Bitvavo, Korbit, Indodax, Bitrue, WhiteBIT, CoinSpot and CoinSwitch. A second hard fork was scheduled for Sept. 22 covering CoinEx, HTX, Bitkub, GOPAX, Coinone, OKX, LBank, Crypto.com, Gate, Paribu, CEX.IO and Bitget. Bybit and Bithumb are expected in a third fork. Binance now confirms its migration separately.
Self-custody holders are being moved via a separate zero-knowledge proof migration system that lets users prove ownership of an old address without exposing seed phrases or private keys. The ZKP migration audit is complete, with rollout targeted for Sept. 22 alongside an escrow contract activation.
Separately, BNB price slipped about 3.3% to around $761 on Sept. 23, while remaining up 7.4% over seven days, as Binance announced a Stocks Account migration. Starting Sept. 29, Binance will begin moving crypto balances from Funding Accounts to Spot Accounts ahead of a Stocks Account rename in January 2027.
Binance will stop accepting on-chain crypto deposits into Funding Accounts from Sept. 29. Pay, Card and Gift Card credits will go to Spot, while Convert limit orders will lock and settle in Spot. A One-Click Migration button will be available, and users who take no action will have eligible assets transferred automatically in batches beginning January 2027. Binance says total asset balances remain unchanged and history records are preserved.
The future Stocks Account will support equities, options and six settlement assets: USD, USDC, USDT, USD1, U and BNB. The inclusion means BNB remains part of Binance’s funding choices for stock and stock-options settlement even as other crypto balances move to Spot. Direct stocks and options remain in the renamed account, while bStocks held in Funding Accounts move to Spot.
Binance’s securities service offers eligible users outside the U.S. access to more than 7,000 U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs with fractional purchases starting at $5. On Sept. 1, Binance introduced physically settled options on selected U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs. Binance also disclosed on Sept. 22 a $100 million Circle stake and a five-year commercial agreement concerning USDC use across its platform.
