CertiK has officially joined LF Decentralized Trust (LFDT), the Linux Foundation’s initiative for open-source decentralized technologies, as part of a new intake of 15 members that includes Swift, Wells Fargo, Cosmos, Sui Foundation and Ethereum Institutional.
The blockchain security firm plans to contribute security research, formal verification and audit expertise to LFDT projects and working groups used across finance, banking, supply chains, healthcare and telecommunications.
The move follows CertiK’s independent research on Besu, an Ethereum execution client hosted by LFDT. In August, CertiK disclosed five vulnerabilities affecting Besu’s peer-to-peer, RPC, WebSocket and consensus-facing interfaces; the client patched all five in version 26.7.1 on July 27 before advisories were published on Aug. 14. Two issues were classified as Major severity.
CertiK framed the membership against a stricter regulatory backdrop. Its research found that independent smart contract audits are now mandated or indirectly required for licensing and token admission in Hong Kong, the UAE, the EU and several U.S. states. AML penalties surpassed $900 million in the first half of 2025, while exchanges, custodians and issuers face capital adequacy, asset segregation, liquidity management and operational resilience requirements closer to traditional banking standards.
“Security and compliance can’t be treated as one-off exercises bolted on late in a project’s lifecycle anymore; that’s exactly the kind of thinking the current regulatory environment is punishing,” said Ronghui Gu, CertiK co-founder and CEO. Daniela Barbosa, LFDT Executive Director, said the industry “needs infrastructure that’s built to standards from the start.”
LFDT has expanded steadily in 2026. OpenWallet Foundation will move under LFDT from Jan. 1, 2027; Linea became a premier member in May and contributed the Linea Stack; and the Linux Foundation noted in July that DTCC was using Besu for an AppChain supporting tokenized collateral infrastructure, with production trades involving tokenized Russell 1000 equities, ETFs and U.S. Treasuries.
The membership also follows CertiK’s partnership with the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic on the Digital Som CBDC, covering security, AML and counter-terrorism financing oversight. CertiK, founded in 2017, has served more than 5,500 enterprise clients.
