Shiba Inu community member Mazrael has issued a warning to holders that more than 366 Ethereum tokens share the TREAT ticker, making contract address verification essential before buying, selling, or transferring assets. The warning came in response to an X post from BAPA-Fortuna that highlighted only two Ethereum tokens with the same name and ticker. Mazrael argued that presenting only two choices could mislead holders because the actual number of matching listings on Ethereum alone exceeds 366.
The official Shiba Inu ecosystem TREAT token exists on both Ethereum and Shibarium, with a separate contract address on each network. Users must confirm both the relevant network and the contract address before treating any wallet entry or exchange listing as official. One unrelated Ethereum token using the TREAT name reportedly dates to January 13, 2023, but its age does not establish any connection to Shiba Inu's ecosystem. Mazrael stressed that ticker familiarity can point to an entirely different contract, so contract addresses—not token names—should guide transactions.
In a related Shibarium update, Mazrael shared progress on x402 payment infrastructure on the layer-2 network. Shibarium has deployed Permit2, an x402 proxy, and SignatureValidator at canonical addresses matching those used on Ethereum, Base, and Polygon. Existing x402 clients can operate on Shibarium's chain 109 without developers writing custom code. While many x402 facilitators support USDC payments through EIP-3009, the Permit2 route can handle other ERC-20 tokens, allowing AI agents and other clients to pay with SHIB, TREAT, or wrapped BONE. Developers may therefore offer more payment choices across Shibarium applications, but any request involving TREAT still requires the same contract address check.
