Key takeaways:

  • Saylor's cryptic teaser signals Strategy may keep absorbing BTC, reinforcing bullish institutional accumulation narrative.
  • Strategy's $18.84B ATM capacity signals more BTC buys ahead, but MSTR dilution remains key risk.
  • ETF inflows and STRC's 9% volatility signal Bitcoin's institutional maturity, yet gains face macro risk.

Michael Saylor renewed speculation on Oct. 4 that Strategy may have purchased more Bitcoin after posting a new accumulation chart. The company’s last confirmed holdings stand at 847,666 BTC.

Strategy’s latest SEC filing, dated Sept. 28, showed it acquired 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27, paying an average of $85,681 per coin. That brought its cumulative Bitcoin position to 847,666 BTC acquired for $63.95 billion, with an average acquisition cost of $75,437 per BTC including fees.

Saylor posted the words More orange than ever alongside Strategy’s Bitcoin purchase chart on Sunday. The post did not disclose a purchase amount, transaction date or price, so it does not by itself confirm another acquisition. It follows a similar pattern: Saylor previously posted Even more orange, and Strategy later disclosed the 1,665 BTC purchase on Sept. 28.

At Bitcoin’s Oct. 4 price near $85,250, Strategy’s 847,666 BTC would be worth close to $72.3 billion, roughly $8.3 billion above its reported acquisition cost. Bitcoin traded up about 0.5% over 24 hours, within a daily range of approximately $84,572 to $85,401.

Strategy still has substantial capacity to fund more Bitcoin purchases. Its latest filing showed $18.84 billion remained available under its MSTR at-the-market program as of Sept. 27. It funded the most recent purchase through sales of 1,469,165 MSTR shares, generating $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of that, $142.7 million went to Bitcoin and $103.5 million funded repurchases of STRC preferred stock, with an additional $48.1 million in cash used for STRC repurchases.

Meanwhile, Saylor highlighted that STRC’s 30-day historical volatility dropped to 9%, below SPY, marking a milestone for digital credit and income investors seeking lower-volatility exposure through Bitcoin-linked financial engineering.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF holdings have also risen. CryptoQuant analyst Amr Taha reported ETF holdings increased from about 1.20 million BTC on July 1 to roughly 1.288 million BTC by Oct. 4, a gain of nearly 88,000 BTC or 7.3%. CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju said he believes Bitcoin’s bear market ended this summer and described the market as being in the early stages of a new cycle.

The next official Strategy disclosure will clarify whether additional Bitcoin was actually acquired after Sept. 27.
