Coinbase Pro Returns by End of 2026 as Deribit Integration Creates Global Exchange

Key takeaways:

  • Coinbase's Deribit-backed Pro relaunch signals a derivatives land grab versus Binance and CME.
  • 10x spot margin on BTC/ETH may amplify liquidations, raising volatility risks for leveraged traders.
  • Watch fee compression and unified margin; Coinbase's competitive moat may strengthen despite near-term revenue pressure.

Coinbase is bringing back its professional trading platform Coinbase Pro by the end of 2026, more than four years after it began retiring the original product. The company confirmed the relaunch on October 7, presenting it as part of a wider expansion that combines crypto spot markets, derivatives, and equities within a single trading ecosystem.

CEO Brian Armstrong also announced the move on Twitter. The revived Coinbase Pro will not simply restore the old interface; Coinbase said it is rebuilding the platform from the ground up for active and high-volume traders, with faster order routing, improved execution, and advanced trading tools. It is expected to support spot, futures, perpetual futures, options, and equities under one roof.

The relaunch follows Coinbase’s completed integration of Deribit, the derivatives exchange it acquired for approximately $2.9 billion in 2025. Coinbase said the completed integration has created Coinbase Global Exchange, combining Coinbase International Exchange with Deribit’s derivatives infrastructure. Deribit brings substantial scale: as of September 30, the platform held more than $30 billion of Bitcoin options open interest and processed more than $1 trillion of trading volume last year.

Perpetual trading previously handled by Coinbase International Exchange has moved to Deribit by Coinbase. Institutional International Exchange accounts, positions, and balances have also been migrated to the combined platform. Coinbase Financial Markets, the U.S.-regulated futures commission merchant, will later connect eligible U.S. customers with global derivatives liquidity. Coinbase says this will create a single regulated liquidity pool spanning U.S. and international crypto derivatives markets. The structure follows Commodity Futures Trading Commission guidance issued in May.

Coinbase is also introducing spot margin trading with leverage up to 10x on selected major assets and up to 5x on other supported assets, with more than 15 assets usable as collateral. Options will initially become available to eligible customers outside the U.S. in the coming weeks. U.S. institutional clients will access Deribit options and perpetuals through Coinbase Prime, while U.S. retail options access is expected later this year. Coinbase Advanced is receiving a new matching engine, revised fee tiers beginning at $10,000 of qualifying trading volume, and an options strategy builder capable of executing multi-leg trades.

The return of Coinbase Pro is part of a much larger restructuring of Coinbase’s trading ecosystem. The original Pro platform was retired as sophisticated trading features were consolidated into Coinbase Advanced, with that transition completed in 2023. Coinbase now sees value in maintaining a dedicated interface for professional and high-frequency users. Deribit-powered options, unified portfolios, and additional margin capabilities are scheduled to roll out over the coming weeks.
