Grayscale’s head of research, Zach Pandl, publicly backed Litecoin as the network marked the fifteenth anniversary of its genesis block on October 7, 2026. Pandl noted an unusual increase in mentions around the anniversary and described Litecoin as an “OG altcoin,” reinforcing its status among the cryptocurrency market’s earliest assets.
Litecoin has operated without interruption since its October 7, 2011 launch. Reported network figures for October 7, 2026 show approximately 156,000 daily transactions, average transaction fees of about $0.003, a hashrate of 2,671.43 TH/s, and roughly 9.10 million active addresses. The network’s MWEB privacy pool also reached a record balance exceeding 563,000 LTC.
Grayscale manages the Litecoin Trust under the LTCN ticker, with reported net assets of $97,560,938 and approximately 24.25 million shares outstanding. In September, Grayscale filed an amended application with the Securities and Exchange Commission to convert the trust into a spot exchange-traded fund. The proposed listing would take place on NYSE Arca, though SEC approval remains pending. Grayscale’s Litecoin Trust is described as the largest investment product based on the coin, while Canary Capital operates a smaller Litecoin fund.
The anniversary brings together Pandl’s endorsement, network milestones, and Grayscale’s pending spot ETF conversion proposal.
