EDX Markets, the institution-only digital asset venue backed by Wall Street trading and venture capital firms, has announced a strategic partnership with VerifiedX to introduce institutional spot trading of tokenized Bitcoin. The agreement, announced on October 8, 2026, will bring Verified Bitcoin (vBTC) to EDX's institutional trading platform while also making EDX a validator on the VerifiedX blockchain network.
vBTC is a tokenized form of Bitcoin built on VerifiedX's layer-2 protocol. Each token is collateralized one-to-one by native BTC, with Taproot addresses embedded in every token and a direct redemption path back to Bitcoin. VerifiedX positions vBTC as self-custodial and non-synthetic, targeting institutional workflows such as price discovery, cross-market arbitrage, treasury and balance-sheet mobility, and borrowing and lending. A canonical EVM representation, vBTC.b, extends the same redemption path to supported Ethereum-compatible environments.
Rather than simply listing a new asset, EDX Markets will validate transactions and participate in governance on the VerifiedX network. The arrangement is designed to let institutions keep direct control over the threshold-signing environment securing their Bitcoin instead of relying on a public signing pool, while EDX's central clearinghouse reduces bilateral counterparty exposure for institutional participants. The move deepens Wall Street's push into tokenized Bitcoin, letting institutions put BTC to work across trading, lending, and decentralized finance without surrendering the underlying asset.
"Institutional adoption of digital assets increasingly depends on giving sophisticated market participants greater flexibility in how they trade, move and deploy capital," said David Olsson, Chief Commercial Officer of EDX Markets. Jay Pollak, Head of Strategy at the VerifiedX Foundation, added: "Bitcoin does not need another financial abstraction. It needs infrastructure that allows the asset itself to do more."
Financial terms, expected trading volumes, and a specific launch date were not disclosed. EDX said additional details on vBTC availability would be announced in the coming weeks, and that its products remain available only to institutions in the U.S. and certain other jurisdictions. The announcement follows VerifiedX's September 9 disclosure of a $15 million financing round intended to expand institutional Bitcoin infrastructure, with Cantor Fitzgerald serving as investment banking partner.
The companies also noted that while one-to-one collateralization reduces some risks, institutions must still assess custody arrangements, redemption mechanisms, smart-contract security, and operational dependencies. The partnership does not establish that vBTC trading has already begun or that all proposed lending and treasury applications are operational, but it represents another step toward connecting institutional Bitcoin markets with programmable blockchain infrastructure.
