CryptoSlate analysis on Oct. 8 and Oct. 9 highlights why XRP's reported circulation near 63.09 billion tokens does not directly reveal how much XRP is actually available for purchase at a given price. The distinction matters because circulating supply provides market scale, while sell orders show the quantities actually offered at particular prices.
According to XRP Insights, exchange-attributed wallets held 21.97 billion XRP across 699 wallets and 24 venues at 08:00 UTC on Oct. 8. Those balances include pooled customer assets and cold storage, so they are not a clean measure of sell-side supply. Order book depth snapshots showed about $2.4 million in +2% depth on Binance XRP/USDT and $4.0 million on Coinbase XRP/USD, though these provider-reported figures change continuously as orders change.
Supply definitions overlap and cannot simply be added or subtracted to produce a clean float. Market-reported circulation was about 63.09 billion XRP, while XRP Insights counted 68.59 billion XRP outside Ripple escrow after burns. Ripple escrow still held 31.40 billion XRP. Bitwise's XRP fund held approximately 419.96 million XRP on Oct. 6, and Franklin XRPZ held about 295.83 million on Oct. 5, for a combined 715.79 million XRP across two redeemable funds. Ripple's June 30, 2026 disclosure reported 37.656 billion XRP held overall, including 32.6 billion in escrow, leaving roughly 5.056 billion outside escrow at that date. None of these figures can be treated as a definitive buyable float.
Separate XRPL data underscored a similar distinction for stablecoin activity. Tracked stablecoins on the XRP Ledger reached $1.338 billion on Oct. 7, with Ripple's RLUSD representing 93.17% of that total. Ripple's Oct. 1 transparency figures put total RLUSD circulation at $2,509.8 million, backed by $2,633.8 million in reserve funds. However, stablecoin balances do not translate directly into XRP demand because the asset principal can remain in stablecoins or tokenized assets; XRP is used mainly for network fees and account reserves. DefiLlama's XRPL dashboard reported $43.44 million in DeFi value locked, $3.91 million in 24-hour decentralized-exchange volume and just $528 in 24-hour chain fees.
XRPL's standard transaction cost is 10 drops, or 0.00001 XRP, with fees burned. Reserve rules require 1 XRP per account and generally 0.2 XRP per owned ledger object. A direct XRP payment moves existing balances but does not necessarily create fresh market buying. XRP bridge routes, automated market maker pools that include XRP, and lending vaults can create additional inventory demand, but the share of activity routed through XRP remains unquantified.
Tokenized fund examples illustrate the point. Ondo's tokenized Treasury product OUSG went live on XRPL in June 2025 using RLUSD for subscriptions and redemptions. Ripple's Sept. 29, 2026 announcement said CSD BR would initially mirror BTG Pactual fund-share records on XRPL, while CSD BR's own systems remain official for registration, deposit and settlement.
The combined data suggests that a defensible buyable-supply estimate for XRP would require a specific price limit, time window and coverage of exchange and over-the-counter offers. Circulation provides scale and custody shows where coins sit; neither tells buyers the size of actual sell orders at the price they are willing to pay.
