XRP Ledger Agentic Payments Surge From 1M to 13M in Three Months

Key takeaways:

  • XRP agentic payment surge signals utility growth, but low settled XRP volumes suggest early-stage testing.
  • RLUSD's role in agent settlements could deepen stablecoin utility on XRPL, yet adoption remains merchant-dependent.
  • Watch XRPL's 25% agentic share for structural shift, but verify real merchant demand, not bots.

Former Ripple product lead and t54ai cofounder Chandler Fang says agentic payments on the XRP Ledger are accelerating faster than most expected, with transaction volume jumping from roughly 1 million in July to more than 13 million currently. Fang made the remarks in a post on X, where he engaged with RippleX head of engineering J.A. Akinyele’s outlook on the growing agentic payment ecosystem.

Current data cited by Fang shows 13,489,468 agentic transactions processed through 168 registered x402 merchants, settled using 6,982.32 XRP and 12,009.98 RLUSD. Akinyele had earlier predicted that agentic payments would cross 10 million, and now says that milestone has been surpassed. He suggests that 100 million agentic transactions may arrive sooner than previously expected.

At the XRP Seoul 2026 event on October 3, Akinyele delivered a keynote on paving the way for the AI Agent Economy. He noted that agentic payments currently account for about 25% of activity on the XRP Ledger. To support this growth, Ripple is developing purpose-built agent infrastructure, including verifiable identities, strict execution safeguards such as permissions and spending rules, and secure smart wallets capable of holding XRP and stablecoins with fast 3- to 5-second settlement.

Fang described the next phase as bringing more real-world merchants and services onchain, with agents paying in XRP and RLUSD and settling on XRPL through t54ai’s x402 facilitator.
