An Aave proposal to roll over USDG-backed positions into a new fixed-yield Pendle principal token is facing a profitability problem. Risk provider LlamaRisk found that the February PT on X Layer carried an implied annual percentage yield of about 2.98%, while Aave’s variable borrowing APYs stood at 4.12% for USDT0, 5.87% for USDC and 3.75% for USDG. GHO was the one cheaper exception in an earlier Oct. 7 snapshot, borrowing at 0.93%.
The TokenLogic proposal would allow borrowers to keep their stablecoin debt exposure by moving from the PT maturing Oct. 29 into a replacement maturing Feb. 25, 2027. A flash-loan transaction would temporarily repay debt, replace the old PT collateral, borrow again and repay the flash loan. OKX would develop that integration separately, and both the Aave listing and OKX integration would need to be implemented.
The 2.98% annualized PT yield translates into only about 1.11% gross appreciation over the roughly 137.1 days from the Oct. 10 snapshot to maturity. An illustrative table showed returns on equity at 2x and 5x exposure. At 2x, borrowing USDT0 produced +0.69%, USDC +0.05% and USDG +0.83%. At 5x, all three turned negative: USDT0 -0.56%, USDC -3.11% and USDG -0.02%. Without borrowing, the same PT position would earn about 1.11% before costs. Fees, slippage, network charges and flash-loan costs could erase thin positive results.
LlamaRisk attributes participating loop users’ profitability mainly to external OKX Exchange Earn incentives. If those incentives end, users would likely unwind. A separate OKX Wallet bonus campaign for USDG Loop or PT-USDG-29OCT2026 supplied through the designated Wallet page has a bonus APY capped at 2% and ends Oct. 28 at 07:00 UTC. The announced reward pool is 490,000 USDT, but actual payouts depend on eligible participants’ deposit shares. OKX Wallet’s FAQ also states that PT positions do not automatically redeem, unwind, renew or roll over at maturity, and promotional rewards stop then.
LlamaRisk recommends new E-Mode 9 parameters with a 91.48% loan-to-value limit, a 93.48% liquidation threshold and a 35 million PT supply cap. The existing E-Mode 7 threshold was cited as 94.66%. Aave’s Oct. 10 display showed 59.79 million October PT units supplied as collateral and $61.12 million of borrowing across the entire X Layer market. A September borrower review found 55.1 million USDT0 in debt represented 98.7% of the reviewed cohort’s debt, with a median health factor of 1.03 among top suppliers.
Separate LlamaRisk snapshots show thin liquidation buffers elsewhere. On Monad, top suppliers of PT-$AUSD had health factors ranging from 1.01 to 1.18, with a median of 1.03. The 30 million PT supply cap was fully used, and LlamaRisk recommended raising it to 60 million. The pool was about 47% PT and 53% SY, meaning a large sale could hit the opposite side. The liquidation threshold was 95% with a 2.62% bonus in stablecoin E-mode, but the bonus must cover real conversion costs.
On Arc, two syrupUSDC positions held about 97% of supplied syrupUSDC with health factors of 1.02 and 1.01, and all debt was in USDC. Arc had 59.63 million USDC available in Aave as debt-token inventory, not cash for redemptions. A local Uniswap V4 venue saw proceeds saturate near $500,000 as the USDC side was exhausted. Arc has no native redemption for the asset; bridging to Ethereum was estimated at two to five minutes normally, with throughput around $10 million per hour. Maple’s withdrawal queue usually takes under 24 hours but can take up to 30 days.
The practical test for lenders is whether recoverable collateral proceeds at realistic liquidation sizes can cover debt repayment and exit costs. A health factor shows proximity to liquidation, but it does not show how fast collateral can become cash.
