Crypto wallet providers are accelerating a structural shift away from simple self-custody storage and toward integrated DeFi hubs that combine swaps, yield, lending, payments and, increasingly, trading interfaces. The 2025–2026 cycle has seen wallets and exchanges converge on a common objective: a crypto super app that hosts multiple financial services in one place.
On fee structures, Phantom charges 0.85% on most swaps, with exceptions for certain deposits into perpetual futures balances. MetaMask lists a 0.875% swap fee and says it searches decentralized exchanges and swapping protocols without supplying liquidity itself. Jupiter Wallet reports trading fees of 0% to 0.5% depending on the pair and says the wallet adds no separate platform fee on top of its routing charge. Jupiter also separates routing costs from additional wallet charges and describes built-in transaction-ordering protection through its Ultra routing engine.
MetaMask launched Money Account on Monad on June 30, offering supported stablecoin conversions into mUSD alongside trading and card payments. Consensys said deposits would enter smart contract vaults managed by Veda and curated by Steakhouse Financial. Morpho was the initial lending destination, with Aave markets expected to follow. MetaMask advertises up to 4% variable annual percentage yield, calculated after product and network fees, and the rate changes daily with market conditions. Cardholders in eligible regions can fund purchases directly from Money Account balances, while mUSD held in a regular account does not automatically earn interest.
Jupiter Wallet's Auto-Earn feature allows users to enable individual stablecoins for automatic deposits into Jupiter Lend's earning vaults. Supported assets include USDC, USDT, JupUSD, EURC, USDG and USDS. While the wallet is unlocked, the extension checks balances hourly and deposits the full balance of an enabled token once it passes a selected threshold. The feature applies to seed phrase or private key wallets, excluding Jupiter ID wallets. Disabling Auto-Earn stops new deposits, but assets already committed to lending remain until withdrawn. Aave's supply documentation notes that supplied tokens move into a smart contract liquidity pool where borrowers can access them, with supply rates responding to borrowing activity and governance settings.
Gasless transactions are also spreading. MetaMask deducts network costs from the token being exchanged on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Linea, Base, Arbitrum and Polygon. Jupiter covers eligible Solana network costs and recovers the equivalent from the token received, while Phantom describes gasless swaps on Solana and Ethereum-compatible networks when native-token balances cannot cover network charges.
The regulatory and tax landscape is part of the discussion. Phantom and the Hyperliquid Policy Center requested tailored CFTC rules, arguing that developers of decentralized trading software should not automatically register as exchanges or clearinghouses and that non-custodial wallet interfaces should not be treated as introducing brokers. The IRS distinguishes between taxable crypto-to-crypto exchanges and generally non-taxable transfers between a user's own wallets.
The broader all-in-one trend is visible across the industry. Ledger's July 2026 update introduced real-time P&L tracking, aggregated multichain balances and an Earn Simulator without private keys leaving the hardware signer. OKX Wallet aggregates assets across more than 130 blockchains and offers DEX trading, automated strategies and smart money signals. Trust Wallet launched its Trade Menu in February 2026, integrating swaps, perpetual contracts, prediction markets and meme tokens. Kraken Wallet acquired Magic Labs' embedded wallet business, allowing users to trade more than 2,500 Solana tokens without managing seed phrases, while its Bitcoin Vault accumulated roughly $400 million in deposits. Coinbase formalized its 'Everything Exchange' strategy and surpassed one million Coinbase One subscribers in Q2 2026. Bitget Wallet reoriented toward 'Everyday Finance', adding crypto cards, QR code payments, bank transfers and in-app purchases.
MetaMask also launched an Agent Wallet in August, allowing AI agents to transact under user-defined spending limits and protocol permissions. Its default Guard Mode pauses transactions that breach those rules for human approval, with qualifying losses potentially covered up to $10,000 per month. MetaMask said: 'The agent can act, but it acts inside the user's boundaries.' Phantom announced the acquisition of fraud-protection firm Blowfish, while Jupiter's extension documentation lists transaction protection against hidden transfers from malicious browser extensions and support for Ledger, Keystone and Trezor hardware wallets.
Despite the convenience, the convergence raises unresolved risk questions. Ledger warns that funds remain exposed to protocol-level risks while positions are open. MetaMask acknowledges that AI agents can be exposed to prompt injection attacks or malicious content. Analysts argue that if an integrated wallet replicates the incentives of a centralized exchange—maximizing volume, reducing confirmations and automating decisions—without the custody safeguards an exchange offers, users may face the worst of both models. Gate CEO Lin Han has stated that all-in-one money apps will become a leading consumer trend. The crucial issue is not whether convergence continues, but whether platforms disclose protocol-level risk separately from custody risk and give users meaningful opt-in controls for features that alter their risk profile.
