The launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 triggered an instant on-chain frenzy after it briefly showed a fictional cryptocurrency called Dacity Coin plastered along the side of a plane. The reference appeared for about two seconds, with a man setting off a neon pink flare on the aircraft’s wing, but it was enough to send a real Solana memecoin sharing the same name soaring.
According to data from DEX Screener, the token surged 2,900% in one hour, rising from a market capitalization of roughly $104,000 to $3.18 million. The memecoin had launched five days earlier, on October 11, via Solana launchpad Pump.fun, after leaked GTA 6 footage from hacker Cyberleek revealed that Dacity Coin was set to appear in the game. Before the trailer, the token spiked to a $1.14 million market cap, then fell to $144,700 and traded sideways.
The trailer-driven pump produced notable profits for early buyers. DEX Screener tracked 24 traders who made more than $10,000 each, with the top trader turning $1,912 into approximately $44,000. The rally was not sustained: Dacity Coin later dropped about 53% from its peak to a market cap near $1.5 million.
The in-game imagery ties Dacity Coin to a fictional brand called AudaCity, and leaked screenshots reportedly show protagonist Lucia skydiving with an AudaCity parachute bearing the slogan “Quit your job. Sell your house. Move [ineligible].” The content appears to satirize the extreme promotional stunts used by real meme coin creators. Rockstar Games has not confirmed any connection to the Solana token and did not respond to Decrypt’s request for comment.
The situation mirrors a previous event in February 2025, when Fortnite included a fake crypto called Dill Bits and a real Solana version briefly reached a $4.78 million market cap before crashing 96%. Rockstar has not indicated whether GTA 6 will support real cryptocurrency payments or blockchain features.
