Optimism has published a new ecosystem report showing that 54 blockchains now operate on mainnet using OP Stack, its Ethereum-compatible infrastructure for building Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks. According to official figures, these OP Stack chains processed an average of 66.8% of all Layer 2 and Layer 3 transactions between January and September 2026, underscoring the stack’s growing dominance in the scaling sector.
The ecosystem averaged approximately 908 million monthly transactions over the period and recorded $35 trillion in gross stablecoin transfers. By the end of September, OP Stack networks held $8.2 billion in stablecoins, $7.5 billion in assets deployed in DeFi, and $22.2 billion in total value secured. Teams building applications across the Optimism ecosystem generated $227 million in revenue during the first nine months of 2026, excluding blockchain fees.
Major networks using OP Stack include World, Unichain, Ink and Soneium. The report also highlights two operational models: projects can run networks independently or use OP Enterprise managed services. Ink uses a fully managed model, while GIWA, developed by Dunamu, the company behind Upbit, follows a self-managed approach and remains in testnet after recording more than 100 million testnet transactions. Bitpanda is developing Vision Chain using OP Enterprise managed services.
On OP Mainnet, key applications include decentralized lending protocol Morpho, decentralized exchange Velodrome, and ether.fi Cash, which reported more than 100,000 active cards and 300,000 accounts in August. The network also hosts precious-metal-backed tokens from Zipangcoin and mRe7ETH, an ETH-denominated product developed by Re7 Labs and offered through Midas. In South Korea, institutional initiatives remain in early stages: Toss and KOMSCO completed digital asset transaction tests, while KB Securities signed an agreement with Securitize and the Optimism Foundation to explore tokenized funds. DB Securities also announced a two-year development project.
