Tokenized equity markets are gaining renewed attention after Securitize captured a notable share of issuer-sponsored tokenized stocks and a sweeping analyst report argued that blockchains have found their main use case in real-world asset tokenization.
Securitize now represents 10.7% of the total tokenized stock market cap, according to data highlighted by Token Terminal. The figure underscores a shift toward direct on-chain ownership in a market that remains dominated by synthetic exposure. Securitize operates compliance-focused infrastructure for issuing and managing tokenized securities, positioning it as a key player as more companies consider moving shares onto blockchain rails.
Meanwhile, Citrini Research released a 79-page report titled Breaking the Wall, stating that 'blockchains have finally found their raison d’être' in tokenizing assets such as buildings, bonds and equities. The report argues tokenized assets can behave like software, moving between applications and being used as collateral without rebuilding custody and settlement each time.
Large financial institutions signaled interest during third-quarter earnings calls. Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said tokenization could expand trading activity similarly to electronic trading decades ago, though he noted activity is 'small and at the margin.' Wells Fargo said it processes cross-border payments with tokenized deposits in two minutes or less, while Morgan Stanley CFO Sharon Yeshaya said faster asset movement will increase the need for financial advice. None provided a specific tokenization revenue figure.
Kraken’s educational guide clarified that tokenized stocks such as xStocks are tracker certificates backed 1:1 by underlying shares held with a custodian, but holders do not own the share or receive voting rights. The guide also noted that U.S. brokerage SIPC protection does not cover tokenized equity certificates.
BlackRock’s tokenized money market fund BUIDL has reached nearly $3 billion in assets since launching in March 2024. Analysts disagree on where profits will concentrate: Grayscale’s Zach Pandl said owning the networks that host tokenized assets is the most direct bet, naming Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana as leaders; Arca’s Jeff Dorman suggested better returns may come after assets begin trading or serving as collateral; and Amplify ETFs’ Christian Magoon described infrastructure providers as potential 'toll booths on the blockchain toll roads.'
Bitcoin traded near $81,671 and ether near $2,409 on Saturday, reflecting a mixed market backdrop for tokenization-linked networks.
