CME Launches Bitcoin Cash and Uniswap Futures as UNI Tests Key Support

Key takeaways:

  • CME’s BCH and UNI futures deepen regulated altcoin access, potentially attracting institutional hedging demand.
  • UNI futures could satisfy SEC ETF listing test by April 2027, strengthening long-term sentiment.
  • UNI’s near-oversold RSI warrants caution; watch $7.00–$7.20 rebound confirmation before bullish positioning.

CME Group moved to expand its single-asset crypto derivatives lineup on Monday, October 19, with the scheduled launch of futures on Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Uniswap (UNI). The two contracts bring the Chicago exchange's crypto product count to eleven and remain subject to completion of regulatory review, according to CME's product page. Each asset will offer standard and micro contract sizes: Bitcoin Cash futures cover 250 BCH or 25 BCH for the micro version, while Uniswap futures cover 10,000 UNI or 1,000 UNI. Based on prices around $272.06 for BCH and $6.96 for UNI, standard contracts carry notional values near $68,000 and $69,600 respectively.

Giovanni Vicioso, CME's global head of cryptocurrency products, said that as crypto markets mature, participants need broader regulated tools to manage digital asset price risk. The launch extends an altcoin expansion that began earlier this year with Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Avalanche and Sui futures. Those five products have generated more than $1 billion in notional value year-to-date, while CME's broader crypto futures and options business averaged 279,800 contracts a day, or $8.3 billion in notional value, during the first half of 2026.

The Uniswap contract also carries potential ETF significance. Bitwise filed an S-1 registration for a spot Uniswap ETF in February, naming Coinbase Custody as custodian. Under generic SEC listing standards approved in September 2025, a commodity-based exchange-traded product can list without a bespoke rule change if the underlying asset has a futures contract traded for at least six months on a CFTC-regulated designated contract market. If the CME UNI futures launch proceeds, that six-month test could be met by April 2027. In spot markets, UNI traded about $6.83 after falling 4.75% over 24 hours, with RSI near 30 and bearish MACD readings leaving a potential rebound toward the $7.00–$7.20 area unconfirmed.
