Two influential crypto voices are framing the tokenization and decentralized finance debate in sharply different ways, underscoring both the sector's momentum and its unresolved structural challenges.
1inch said in a tweet that tokenization and decentralized finance will ultimately merge into mainstream finance, emphasizing on-chain solutions as the foundation of that transition. The decentralized exchange aggregator argued that the lines between DeFi and traditional finance are increasingly blurring, and it pointed to its own activity as evidence: 1inch has previously reported routing $7 billion in real-world asset volume, while describing its entry into a “tokenization supercycle.” The project also noted current trading volume at zero, signaling thin market activity even as institutional interest in tokenized assets grows.
At the same time, Pantera Capital cautioned that tokenization by itself does not create liquidity. In a separate statement, the investment firm stressed that effective underwriting of risks is essential, particularly in the $18 trillion private market sector that still relies heavily on paper-based agreements. Pantera highlighted its Series A investment in Fission, a company aiming to reshape private market dynamics by pricing duration risk rather than relying on net asset value, as part of an effort to address valuation and liquidity gaps in tokenized environments.
The broader crypto market remains in a state of mixed signals, with no significant price changes reported and tokenized asset volumes largely unrecorded. The combination of 1inch’s mainstream adoption thesis and Pantera’s risk-management warning suggests that while tokenization and DeFi continue to attract institutional attention, the path toward fully liquid on-chain markets depends on stronger underwriting and infrastructure.
