World has unveiled World ID for banking and finance, an industry-specific identity verification suite designed to help financial institutions counter AI-driven threats including deepfake fraud and digital impersonation. The launch was announced by World co-founder Alex Blania at Money20/20 on Sunday.
The offering bundles three existing technologies: the World ID app, a digital identity wallet for managing and sharing credentials called Proofs; World ID for Zoom, which allows video-call participants to confirm they are interacting with a human rather than an AI-generated impersonation; and World ID for Agents, also known as AgentKit, which lets users delegate verified credentials to AI agents for third-party interactions such as financial transactions, account access and customer communications.
World confirmed that World ID for Zoom is now generally available, and that Tools for Humanity, the main developer behind World, has joined Zoom’s independent software vendor exchange program. The company plans to showcase the technology at Zoomtopia and Cloudflare Connect.
The project is working with design partners OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds and Outtake to explore applications in banking and financial services. No specific bank deployment timelines or pricing were disclosed. World cited a Deloitte forecast that AI-enabled fraud losses in the U.S. could rise from an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023 to $40 billion by 2027.
According to World, more than 18 million people now hold its Proof of Human credential. Tools for Humanity President Sandro Herbig said: “As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in all aspects of our lives, enterprises are requesting individuals provide 'Proofs' about themselves to help mitigate fraud and increase trust. World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems.”
The launch follows World’s release of World Money, a self-custody app with stablecoin payments in more than 150 countries, and the World Foundation’s $52.5 million WLD token sale in July with a one-year lockup.
