Bitwise Research Head Says Corporate Bitcoin Buying Could Reaccelerate by Year-End

Key takeaways:

  • Corporate BTC demand cooled sharply, making ETF inflows the key near-term price support.
  • Watch Strategy's premium to BTC holdings as a trigger for renewed corporate accumulation.
  • Sustained $6.4B ETF inflows could offset weak corporate buying and support BTC sentiment.

Bitwise Research Head Ryan Rasmussen said corporate Bitcoin purchases could accelerate again starting from the end of the year if BTC’s price recovers, after a sharp slowdown in the third quarter. According to data he shared, Strategy’s net Bitcoin holdings fell from 83,901 BTC in Q2 to just 1,666 BTC in Q3, while net purchases by other publicly traded companies dropped from 45,725 BTC to 5,617 BTC over the same period.

Rasmussen noted that if the shares of companies holding Bitcoin begin trading at a premium to the value of their BTC holdings, further purchases may become possible. He added that corporate buying is not the only demand source: US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $6.4 billion in net inflows during Q3 2026, and continued ETF demand could support a potential price recovery.
