BitGo is positioning itself at the center of traditional finance's move onto private, permissioned ledgers, while also launching a new innovation arm aimed at AI-driven crypto applications. The dual announcements, reported on October 21, 2026, underscore the company's effort to provide regulated infrastructure for institutions and to build products that only blockchain rails can support.
BitGo said it remains the only regulated qualified custodian on the Canton network, a private ledger ecosystem used by major financial market infrastructure such as DTCC. This role allows the custodian to help established financial players integrate digital assets into their existing operations. According to BitGo, the shift represents growing acceptance of blockchain technology within regulated financial frameworks, although current trading activity around the initiative remains limited as market participants assess its implications.
Separately, BitGo Holdings, Inc. launched BitGo Labs, a research and innovation unit designed to design, launch, and prove out what the company calls the next breakout application for digital assets. The unit will initially target the intersection of AI and crypto. BitGo argues that the AI economy still needs crypto financial infrastructure to process micropayments, enable instant settlement, and secure assets.
Among its first projects is Gokubu, a consumer application already live that uses an AI-powered card to optimize user spending. Users are assigned a personalized AI financial assistant intended to help them access better rewards and more value from transactions. BitGo Labs will also publish research, prototype protocols and reference implementations, and partner with builders, academics, and institutions across the crypto and AI communities.
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe added that AI agents will very likely use stablecoins as their native currency, even if agents eventually create their own internal value systems. He argued that agents will still need to interface with human systems, making stablecoin-based settlement a practical bridge for machine-to-machine payments.
