A technical anomaly has halted SHIB burns through ShibTorch, the Shibarium-based burn portal, after community members noticed the official Shiba Inu website displayed a 'failed to load burn' message. The issue was highlighted on X by SHIB community member Ed Salomons, who shared a screenshot of the ShibTorch page on shib.io.
Long-time community member Mazrael explained that the page pulls data from an indexer that no longer exists, while the bridge route needed to complete burns has been paused. 'You need the bridge to work for ShibTorch, and it is still collecting BONE gas fees,' Mazrael said.
According to ShibWatch data cited by Mazrael, ShibTorch requires 1,000 BONE to trigger a burn, but only 371.37 BONE has accumulated. Additionally, the Ethereum side cannot finish because the bridge's ERC20 lane remains restricted after the 2025 exploit, with the rootchainmanager not authorized to release ERC20s from escrow. Mazrael described the process: first swaps BONE to SHIB on Shibarium, then bridges to the dead wallet on Ethereum.
Despite the pause, ShibTorch has burned approximately 69.32 billion SHIB, worth about $1.27 million at the time of each burn. Mazrael noted that ShibTorch could be the largest SHIB burn source after Vitalik Buterin, who sent 410.24 trillion SHIB to dead wallets in May 2021. The portal remains under maintenance while bridge and infrastructure work continues.
