Institutional appetite for cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds is becoming a key narrative as the 2026 U.S. midterm elections approach. Crypto commentator Nate Geraci noted a notable uptick in institutional interest this week, with market participants increasingly focused on ETF structures and the regulatory environment in Washington. Asset managers such as Grayscale continue to expand products, and traders are watching whether a more favorable regulatory stance could translate into sustained inflows.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs provided a mixed but ultimately positive weekly picture. After two consecutive weeks of outflows, the funds posted a $526.60 million net inflow on Monday, followed by $23.16 million on Tuesday. The strongest move came Wednesday, when Bitcoin briefly touched $85,000 for the first time in two weeks and $528.50 million entered the vehicles. However, the breakout attempt was rejected, leading to heavy withdrawals on Thursday and Friday. SoSoValue data showed Thursday outflows hit $635.49 million, the largest daily redemption since late June, while Farside reported $137.9 million in outflows on Friday. Despite the late-week reversal, Bitcoin ETFs ended the week with net inflows of $304.77 million, pushing cumulative net inflows from just under $56.9 billion to nearly $57.2 billion.
Ethereum ETFs struggled for the fourth consecutive week, extending a negative streak that began at the end of September. The funds recorded a total weekly net outflow of about $220 million. Monday brought $103.28 million in redemptions, and Tuesday added $26.13 million. Wednesday offered only brief relief with nearly $15 million in inflows, but Thursday saw $110.50 million exit the products. A minor $4.4 million inflow on Friday was not enough to change the sour mood. Since late September, Ethereum ETFs have lost well over $1.2 billion, with cumulative net inflows falling below $12.75 billion from nearly $14 billion. The underlying asset dropped more than 4% on the week and was struggling near $2,350.
The widening performance gap between Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs reflects a cautious institutional environment: there is growing interest in crypto investment wrappers, but traders remain selective. With regulatory discussions intensifying before the midterms, ETF flows are likely to be a leading indicator of where institutional capital is heading.
