Polymarket Expands Beyond Crypto with Chainlink-Powered Gold and Silver Markets

Key takeaways:

  • LINK’s 4.9% gain signals traders pricing Chainlink’s expanding oracle use beyond crypto.
  • CFTC-regulated gold/silver contracts could broaden Polymarket’s user base, but volume adoption remains unproven.
  • Watch LINK for pullback risk if commodity-market volume fails to match crypto-market engagement.

Polymarket has gone live with 15-minute gold and silver up-or-down markets, its first contracts outside cryptocurrency prices, deepening an existing oracle relationship with Chainlink. The expansion, announced jointly on October 30 and active by October 31, uses Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment to resolve whether gold or silver closes a rolling 15-minute window above or below the level printed at the open.

The two firms said Chainlink has already settled more than $11 billion in Polymarket trading volume across prior 5- and 15-minute crypto price markets. Polymarket first adopted Chainlink oracles in 2025, and the partnership now positions the prediction platform to move beyond crypto. Chainlink said on X that 'more commodities, with equities and FX to follow' are on the roadmap. Polymarket's own account framed the launch as: 'Gold & silver, up or down? 15 minute up/down gold & silver polymarkets are now live.'

Polymarket chief legal officer Neal Kumar said the oracle relationship allows traders 'to take positions in a growing number of equity, commodity, and FX markets at all times' and gives users confidence in accurate resolution. Chainlink Labs chief business officer Johann Eid called the expansion a template for traditional markets moving onchain, adding that high-speed pricing data enables Polymarket to resolve markets with accuracy and efficiency. Market makers can access the same Data Streams through self-serve access.

LINK traded near $11.59 on October 31, up about 4.9% over 24 hours, while Bitcoin was roughly unchanged near $77,460. The move coincided with the Polymarket launch, although a single-day price move is not proof of causation. Polymarket US operates as a CFTC-regulated designated contract market, giving the expansion a regulatory footing. The new contracts are short-horizon direction bets, not custody or spot exposure to gold or silver.
