Stacks (STX) delivered one of the most volatile moves among altcoins on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The token initially jumped 13.37% in just 15 minutes, rising from $0.3202 to $0.363, with a 24-hour price change of 29.69% and 24-hour trading volume above $2.1 million. The surge briefly lifted STX as high as $0.399 on the 4-hour chart before sellers stepped in and pushed the price back toward $0.327.
The rebound moved STX back above its 50-period exponential moving average near $0.3070, but the price has not yet closed above the 200-period average at $0.3329. The two averages formed a bearish death cross around October 24, and that signal remains in force. The upper wick on the latest 4-hour candle is the key short-term warning: buyers briefly cleared the 0.618 Fibonacci retracement at $0.3897, measured from the mid-October high of $0.465 to this week’s low of $0.268, before sellers pushed STX lower. The RSI reached about 65.6, close to overbought territory above 70.
Although no fresh announcement matched the timing of the spike, traders continue to focus on Stacks’ fundamental backdrop. The Q3 2026 Ecosystem Report, published October 15, showed Bitcoin staking drawing both BTC and institutional participants in its first two bonding periods under the PoX-5 upgrade activated July 30. BTC bonded rose from 230 BTC in the genesis bond to 505 BTC in the second period, while staked STX climbed from 392 million to 493 million tokens, roughly a quarter of the circulating supply. Stacking DAO’s liquid staking token stBTC reached 636 BTC in supply.
Institutional names involved in the early bonding periods include 21Shares, HashKey Cloud, Sypher Capital and UTXO Management. Upcoming catalysts include the third Bitcoin staking bonding period in November, the Epoch 4.1 network upgrade expected in early December with Clarity 7 set as the default for new smart contracts, and Bitflow’s planned Super Router and CLAMM improvements in Q4. The Stack Sats DeFi incentive program runs until December 10. Muneeb Ali also became CEO of Stacks Labs on October 15, making the November bonding period the first measurable demand test under his leadership.
For traders, the immediate technical marker is a 4-hour close above $0.3433, which would take STX through both the 200-period average and the 0.382 retracement for the first time since the death cross formed. On the downside, support sits at $0.3145 and then the 50 EMA at $0.3070; a break below that could bring the weekly low of $0.268 back into view.
