Base has officially activated its Denim upgrade on mainnet, announced via @base and @buildonbase on November 5, 2026. The upgrade cuts canonical block generation time from two seconds to just 200 milliseconds, allowing up to five full blocks per second.
Denim delivers a roughly 10x latency improvement, positioning Base among high-frequency platforms. The update also introduces BaseTime millisecond precision and permanently retires the Flashblocks pre-confirmation system.
According to the announcement, faster 200 ms blocks are expected to minimize slippage on decentralized exchanges, improve real-time Web3 applications, and optimize smart contract interactions. Node operators, RPC providers, and integrated protocols must synchronize with the new cadence to take advantage of native speed without additional infrastructure costs.
The launch may attract increased user engagement and broaden utility within the crypto ecosystem. Traders are watching whether these improvements influence adoption, trader sentiment, Bitcoin dominance, and broader market cycles.
