A trader on Hyperliquid leveraged a $200 million long position on Bitcoin (BTC) using 50x leverage, gaining approximately $6.8 million. The rally was initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of the nation's crypto reserve, which included BTC, XRP, and ADA. BTC saw a notable rise from $85,000 to $97,255, boosted by the excitement surrounding the reserve announcement. Despite the positive movement for Bitcoin, competitors Cardano (ADA) and XRP made even more significant gains of 47% and 18% respectively, leading to speculation about whether the trader anticipated BTC's performance correctly. The announcement caught many off guard, and some social media users speculated if the trader had insider knowledge. The trader has since closed their position profitably.
The price of Bitcoin surged by over 11% following the announcement, reflecting strong bullish sentiment.
