Caroline Pham, acting chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), confirmed that the CFTC is working closely with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on matters related to cryptocurrency regulation. This collaboration was announced during the Milken Institute’s Future of Fintech Symposium and aims to revive the Joint Advisory Committee, which had been inactive since 2014. SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce emphasized the importance of public feedback in the regulatory process, while also noting the positive engagement from the current administration regarding crypto clarity. The SEC has recently concluded several investigations and lawsuits against major players in the crypto space, suggesting a shift towards a more constructive regulatory environment. The first public roundtable focused on crypto rulemaking is scheduled for March 21.
The news is likely to create a positive sentiment in the crypto market, potentially boosting BTC prices due to increased regulatory clarity.
