Volatility Shares is set to launch the first-ever Solana futures exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States on March 20, introducing two products: the Solana ETF (SOLZ) and the 2X leveraged Solana ETF (SOLT). Bloomberg News reported that while these products are similar in nature to Bitcoin ETFs BITO and BITX, industry views suggest they may not reach the standards of a spot Bitcoin ETF. The funds provide exposure to Solana futures, with SOLT designed to offer amplified returns versus SOLZ. Despite initially lower trading volumes compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum futures, normalizing these figures to market capitalizations positions Solana in a comparable light to these leading cryptocurrencies. Industry experts note that this move follows a similar pattern observed with Bitcoin and Ethereum, where futures-based products paved the way for eventual spot ETF approvals. The launch is seen as a sign of renewed optimism in the US crypto market, spurred in part by regulatory shifts and increasing institutional interest.
