Celestia Unveils mamo-1 Testnet to Propel Network Scalability

15.04.2025 08:56
Celestia, the modular blockchain platform, has launched its new mamo-1 testnet designed to stress its data throughput capabilities by supporting 128MB blocks every six seconds (21.33MB per second), a significant increase over its current mainnet performance. The testnet is open to the public and aims to replicate real-world conditions for applications that demand high data processing volumes, serving as an important step towards future mainnet upgrades that may eventually support blocks up to 1GB. The upgraded testnet incorporates a new data transfer protocol called Vacuum! which optimizes data movement by directing information only to peers who request it, thereby reducing unnecessary network traffic and enhancing efficiency. Operated by 21 validators in Amsterdam, Paris, and Warsaw, mamo-1 builds on the success of the earlier Mammoth Mini prototype, which achieved 27MB/s in controlled lab tests. Despite this technological leap and strong developer interest in the platform, Celestia’s token (TIA) is currently trading at $2.52, down 30% this month and 88% below its all-time high recorded in February. Furthermore, the network faces competition from alternative data availability networks such as EigenDA and Avail. Overall, while short-term price movements may remain subdued, the innovation and development momentum suggest a promising long-term outlook for Celestia’s ecosystem.
