US federal prosecutors have urged a district judge to impose a prison sentence ranging from 78 to 97 months on Avraham 'Avi' Eisenberg, who was convicted of orchestrating a $110 million exploit targeting the decentralized exchange Mango Markets in 2022. The charges include wire fraud, commodities fraud, and manipulation, alongside separate charges relating to possession of child pornography. Despite returning approximately $67 million of the misappropriated funds, Eisenberg retained over $40 million following a community governance vote. Mango Markets has announced its intention to secure $47 million in restitution to rehabilitate its reputation and compensate for the damages resulting from the exploit. The case has been marked by multiple sentencing delays, with hearings previously scheduled for December 2024, February 2025, and April 2025, and now with a significant sentencing hearing set for May 1, 2025. This high-profile case underscores the risks in the decentralized finance space and the increasing regulatory and legal scrutiny facing crypto-related platforms.
