Steak ‘N Shake, a major American fast-food chain with nearly 400 U.S. locations, has announced it will begin accepting Bitcoin (BTC) payments at all outlets from May 16, 2025. The new payment option will be available to over 100 million customers nationwide, marking a significant step for mainstream cryptocurrency adoption in the restaurant industry.
The company had hinted at Bitcoin integration since March, following positive engagement from the crypto community and endorsements from figures such as Jack Dorsey. Their latest statement, ‘the movement is just beginning,’ suggests openness to adopting additional cryptocurrencies in the future.
Few restaurant chains have moved beyond limited pilots to adopt crypto payments at this scale. Steak ‘N Shake joins the ranks of other brands like Chipotle and Subway, which have experimented with digital asset payments in various forms. The decision comes as Bitcoin recently surpassed $100,000, up 4.16% at the latest reporting, further emphasizing growing institutional and retail confidence in the asset.
