The IOTA Foundation, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Tony Blair Institute, and three other partners have announced the launch of the TWIN (Trade Worldwide Information Network) Foundation. This initiative aims to address trade inefficiencies and fragmentation resulting from recent protectionist policies and tariffs, specifically referencing the impacts of former President Trump's tariffs.
Leveraging IOTA's decentralized, open-source technology, TWIN seeks to create a transparent and interoperable infrastructure for global trade. The foundation will facilitate real-time data sharing, support development and implementation of standards for distributed ledger technologies (DLT), and foster collaboration between trade ecosystems. The initiative is unique due to its focus on cross-border, inclusive data flows and innovation, targeting both developed and developing markets.
The TWIN Foundation also aims to provide a platform for new digital trade services, optimize border management for governments, and enable efficiency improvements for the private sector. Powered by IOTA's recently upgraded protocol, TWIN supports solutions such as Self-Sovereign Identity and Digital Product Passports. The coalition's efforts are seen as a significant move toward modernizing trade, driving economic growth in underserved regions, and promoting global cooperation despite recent moves towards protectionism.
