FIFA Selects Avalanche to Power Dedicated Blockchain for NFT Platform and Fan Engagement

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has officially chosen Avalanche to develop and operate its own dedicated layer-1 blockchain network for NFTs and digital fan experiences. Announced on May 22, 2025, FIFA’s new blockchain aims to serve its global fan base of five billion by utilizing Avalanche’s infrastructure focused on scalability, security, and transaction efficiency.

This decision follows FIFA’s initial plans to introduce blockchain-based collectibles, with the new FIFA Blockchain leveraging Avalanche’s Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility to facilitate easier integration with decentralized wallets and applications including MetaMask and WalletConnect.

FIFA will migrate its existing NFT marketplace and FIFA Collect collection from Algorand to the Avalanche-powered blockchain, discontinuing support for Algorand-based wallets. This move is part of a broader Web3 expansion by FIFA, which has previously launched NFT collections and partnered with blockchain firms such as Modex and Mythical Games.

The Avalanche network recently completed the Avalanche9000 upgrade, reinforcing its capacity to support customized layer-1 blockchains for large enterprises like FIFA. While FIFA has not disclosed future plans beyond this migration, the collaboration underscores the persistent interest in blockchain technology for delivering unique digital collectibles and immersive fan engagement experiences despite past market downturns.
