Emirates Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com to integrate Crypto.com Pay into its payment systems, enabling customers to purchase flight tickets using Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), XRP, and Solana (SOL) starting in 2026. The partnership, supported by Dubai Duty Free, aims to attract tech-savvy and younger travelers by offering cryptocurrency payment options, with Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Chief Commercial Officer, stating: 'This reflects our commitment to meeting evolving customer preferences and tapping into younger segments who prefer digital currencies.'
The announcement triggered an immediate 20% surge in Crypto.com's native Cronos (CRO) token, signaling strong market optimism. The collaboration includes joint promotional campaigns and aligns with Dubai's strategic push to become a global cryptocurrency hub, where government services already accept crypto payments via Crypto.com (converted to dirhams) and real estate assets are tokenized on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), reducing transaction fees by 50%.
This move follows broader adoption trends in Dubai, including Emirates NBD bank's partnership with Aquanow for crypto services. While airlines like AirBaltic have previously accepted Bitcoin, Emirates' scale and Dubai's regulatory framework position this integration as a significant milestone for cryptocurrency adoption in travel.
