Status Network (SNT) has unveiled the first natively gasless Ethereum Layer 2 solution on Consensys' Linea zkEVM testnet, introducing a revolutionary economic model that replaces transaction fees with bridged asset yields and app revenues. Built on Linea's high-performance rollup stack, this L2 eliminates gas costs entirely while allocating 100% of net revenues – derived from yield-bearing assets like stETH/sDAI and native application fees – to community incentives.
The protocol establishes a sustainable flywheel: Gasless UX attracts users and developers, increased deposits boost native yields, and pending governance approval, a portion of yields may fuel SNT buybacks and burns. Status co-developed the bridged yield mechanism with Linea, which will extend to all Linea-based L2s, enhancing Ethereum ecosystem sustainability. Testnet v1 launched July 9, 2025, with v2 (featuring RLN spam protection) scheduled for October 2025 and mainnet targeting Q1 2026.
Early adopters include games like Cats Fishing and PonziHero, leveraging frictionless onboarding for true free-to-play mechanics. The model prioritizes privacy and sovereignty while funding public goods through a built-in Ethereum ecosystem pool.
