Takashi Murakami Launches 108 Flowers Revised NFT Collection on Base Amid Market Slump

Japanese artist Takashi Murakami will release his 108 Flowers Revised NFT collection on July 31, 2024, via Coinbase's Layer-2 blockchain Base. The collection features 108 digital trading cards with rarity tiers (Common, Rare, Super Rare, Ultra Rare, Special Art), each pack containing five randomized cards. Minting begins at 00:00 UTC exclusively through the Kaikai Kiki Marketplace.

Unlike previous Ethereum-based drops, this launch emphasizes accessibility: users need no crypto experience or prior NFT holdings and can pay via credit cards or Base cryptocurrency. The collection expands Murakami's physical January 2024 debut with new characters like flying dragons.

The announcement comes amid significant price declines for Murakami's earlier NFTs, with The Block reporting double-digit losses and eroded investor confidence in celebrity-driven projects. Base's low fees aim to attract mainstream buyers, though the market correction raises sustainability concerns for high-end digital art.
