Pi Network has officially opened registration for its first global hackathon since transitioning to Open Mainnet in February 2025. The Pi Hackathon 2025 challenges developers worldwide to create applications that demonstrate real-world utility for the Pi cryptocurrency, moving beyond speculative use cases. With a total prize pool of 160,000 Pi tokens, the event aims to accelerate ecosystem development through practical tools and services.
Registration began on August 15, with the hackathon running from August 21 to October 15, 2025. Participants must form teams and utilize Pi's development resources including Pi App Studio, Brainstorm app, and Pi Open Source (PiOS). Midpoint check-ins are scheduled for September 19, where teams can receive mentorship. Final submissions require a functional app, demo video, and documentation evaluated on utility, creativity, technical depth, and user experience.
Prize distribution includes 75,000 Pi for 1st place, 45,000 Pi for 2nd, 15,000 Pi for 3rd, and up to five honorable mentions receiving 5,000 Pi each. All team members must pass Pi's KYC verification to qualify. The Core Team emphasized this initiative will "expand the Pi ecosystem with practical tools for everyday users" and demonstrate how cryptocurrency solves real-life problems.
