Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has expressed surprise and gratitude after his free education platform Giggle Academy received over $1.3 million in crypto donations within just 12 hours of opening contributions. The donations, tracked on BNB Smart Chain, reached 1,311 BNB (worth approximately $1.3 million) and came from nearly 10,000 transactions.
What caught CZ's attention most was that 90% of the donations came from a single meme coin called GIGGLE, launched by the Giggle Fund. This development, in his own words, "forever changed" his perception of meme coins. "I still don't get how a $5 million market cap coin can generate $900,000 in fees in 12 hours," CZ admitted, while acknowledging that meme coins "have utility."
The Giggle Fund mechanism works by charging trading fees in BNB and automatically forwarding them as donations to Giggle Academy, with 967 transactions originating from this source. According to DEX Screener, Giggle Fund's transaction count surged over 470% in 24 hours with $2.8 million in volume.
CZ clarified that all donations will be used exclusively for community building, creator incentives, ecosystem development, and promotion - not operational costs, which he will cover personally. The funds will support Giggle Academy's mission to provide free K-12 education globally, focusing on non-traditional subjects like blockchain, AI, finance, and negotiations, while avoiding potentially controversial topics like history and religion.
The platform emphasizes transparency, with all donations being on-chain and traceable. CZ envisions that within 5-10 years, the project could sustain itself through donations from alumni and public support, without needing to create its own token.
