MetaMask has confirmed the launch of a new on-chain rewards program, set to distribute over $30 million in Linea tokens during its first season. The initiative, announced via an X post, is described as one of the largest on-chain rewards programs ever built and is designed to regularly reward users for normal on-chain activity rather than short-term farming.
The program includes multiple benefits: referral bonuses, incentives paid in mUSD stablecoin, exclusive partner rewards, and token access. Long-time MetaMask users will receive special benefits tied to the upcoming MetaMask token launch, with Consensys CEO Joe Lubin emphasizing that early adopters will not be ignored. The rewards aim to boost activity on Consensys' Linea layer-2 network, which launched in September with a 9.4 billion token airdrop, and integrate the mUSD stablecoin, which now has a circulating supply near $88 million.
Lubin also revealed plans for additional tokens for other Consensys projects, including Infura, and noted that MetaMask has expanded to support Bitcoin and other networks. However, the company has not clarified if certain jurisdictions will be excluded or if anti-Sybil rules will be enforced. Prediction markets on Myriad give only a 5% chance of the MetaMask token launching before November, with full program details expected in the coming weeks.
