PancakeSwap's Chinese X Account Hacked to Promote Scam Meme Coin Sir Pancake

On October 8, 2025, PancakeSwap's Chinese-language X account was compromised in a security breach, leading to the promotion of a fraudulent meme coin dubbed Sir Pancake. The attacker used phishing tactics to hijack the account and posted links encouraging users to invest in the token, which quickly garnered trading volumes as high as $20 million shortly after launch.

PancakeSwap confirmed the hack during morning Asian hours and immediately warned users to avoid interacting with any links from the compromised account. The team stated, "Our team is investigating to resolve the issue. Updates will be shared only through this official account @PancakeSwap," and later added they were collaborating with X to regain control. No core funds or user wallets were affected, according to the platform.

Despite the scam, community members continued trading Sir Pancake, with data from Dexscreener showing the token's value plummeting over 50% in six hours and its market cap dropping to approximately $2.6 million. Meanwhile, PancakeSwap's native token, CAKE, remained resilient, surging over 10% in 24 hours to trade near $4.34 after hitting an intraday high of $4.50.

This incident echoes a similar hack on the BNB Chain X account the previous week, which also involved meme coin promotion and a rug pull. Binance founder Changpeng Zhao urged vigilance, advising, "Always check the domains very carefully, even from official X handles. Stay SAFU!" PancakeSwap's rapid response helped mitigate broader impacts, though some users reported losses between $8,000 and $13,000.
