YouTube has expanded its ban on promoting online gambling sites to include those offering digital items with monetary value, such as video game skins, cosmetics, and NFTs, effective November 17, 2025. This update initially sparked concerns across the crypto community, with creators fearing a blanket ban on crypto gaming content due to comparisons between gaming mechanics and gambling experiences, like Counter-Strike 2 case openings.
However, a YouTube spokesperson confirmed to Decrypt that the policy is specifically targeted at casinos and gambling sites, not general crypto gaming discussions or content. Content showing video game skins, cosmetics earned in games, or general discussions about NFTs will not be impacted, as long as it does not direct viewers to uncertified gambling platforms.
The clarification came amid uproar from creators like Leevai, who expressed concerns on social media, but pseudonymous crypto gaming content creator Iceyyy noted that this is a reasonable and healthy policy improvement to protect consumers, particularly underage audiences. YouTube emphasized that content promising guaranteed returns may still be removed, and certified gambling sites—those approved by Google—are exempt from the ban, though no public list is available.
Despite initial fears, the policy is aimed at curbing the rise of casino sites sponsoring creators with crypto tokens and NFTs, rather than legitimate crypto gaming experiences. This has helped alleviate worries among crypto gaming advocates, ensuring that popular content remains accessible on the platform.
