On December 2, 2025, Swiss-based company Mt Pelerin announced the launch of personal crypto IBANs, a feature designed to transform self-custodial wallets into universal accounts that seamlessly interface with both blockchain and traditional banking networks. This initiative addresses the common disconnect between cryptocurrency self-custody and the conventional financial system.

With the new crypto IBAN, users can create a personal euro or Swiss franc IBAN attached to their crypto wallet. This enables them to receive bank transfers that are directly converted into cryptocurrency on their own wallet and send payments using crypto that appear as standard bank transfers from an IBAN in their name. The crypto settlement occurs seamlessly in the background, maintaining the principles of self-custody while integrating with everyday banking.

The EUR and CHF IBANs are located in Switzerland, within the SEPA zone, and are available to individuals and organizations worldwide, except from a list of excluded countries. Conversions between fiat currencies and the ZCHF stablecoin are free, while conversions with other cryptocurrencies incur Mt Pelerin's standard fees. The IBAN can be linked to any self-custodial wallet and supports over 30 cryptocurrencies across 15 blockchains. Importantly, the IBAN is not a bank account and does not require declaration as such, available via app.mtpelerin.com and mobile wallet apps.

Mt Pelerin emphasizes that this launch is a milestone in promoting financial freedom by making self-custody a practical alternative to traditional bank accounts, allowing users to opt-out of custody-based banking systems.
