Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals for all THORChain-based assets, including RUNE, to accommodate the network's upcoming major upgrade. The maintenance window will begin at 20:00 UTC on December 5, 2025, coinciding with the moment the THORChain blockchain reaches block height 23,969,500, which serves as the activation point for the upgrade.

The exchange stated that the move is a precautionary measure designed to safeguard user funds during the transition period as network nodes switch over to the new version. Binance will handle all technical integration processes internally, syncing its infrastructure with the updated blockchain. During this maintenance period, users will be unable to deposit or withdraw RUNE or any other tokens native to the THORChain network. The exchange emphasized that no action is required from users.

Importantly, trading will remain unaffected. All THORChain-related trading pairs will stay open, with order execution, liquidity, and market operations continuing normally throughout the upgrade event. This allows traders to maintain their positions and strategies without interruption.

Once the network upgrade is complete and the chain's stability is confirmed, Binance will reopen deposits and withdrawals. The exchange indicated that if the process proceeds as expected, no further announcement will be made regarding the reopening. Such network upgrades are standard industry practice, typically introducing performance enhancements, security refinements, or new protocol rules. Binance's coordinated approach aims to minimize user disruption as THORChain advances to its next version.
