The Tezos ecosystem has announced a significant dual initiative aimed at accelerating global adoption and developer talent. A series of new grant programs, managed by regional hubs including Tezos India, TZ APAC, Tezos Commons, Tezos Africa, Tezos Israel, and TZ Connect, will provide funding for projects dedicated to expanding grassroots activity and developer talent worldwide.
Tezos Commons will offer grants of up to $10,000 to North American candidates, focusing on supporting developers. TZ APAC plans to provide ecosystem growth grants to cultivate new concepts through small-scale funding. Tezos Israel is targeting builders and students aiming to develop decentralized applications (dApps), while Tezos Africa will fund initiatives aimed at solving local challenges and introducing young people to blockchain technology.
Simultaneously, Tezos India and TZ APAC have launched the TezAsia hackathon, the largest Tezos-focused hackathon in Asia. Registration for the month-long event is open until July 8th, with the hackathon itself running from July 10th to August 16th, 2022. The event boasts a total prize pool exceeding $200,000, split evenly between $100,000 in prizes and $100,000 in grants. A special $10,000 prize is allocated for the winner of the Women In Tech (WIT) track.
Om Malviya, President of Tezos India, described the hackathon as "a one-size-fits-all moment for all to enter and contribute to the Tezos ecosystem." The event, hosted in partnership with tech platform Unstop, will allow participants to explore careers in Web3, interacting with leading Tezos dApps and teams across themes like NFTs and DeFi.
This push for growth builds on Tezos's record performance in 2021, which saw a 1,200 percent increase in network activity with contract calls exceeding 2 million. The blockchain's unique on-chain governance and modular architecture allow for continuous, forkless upgrades, which have been used to speed up transactions and reduce gas fees.
