Anchorage Digital, a federally chartered crypto bank, has secured another significant stablecoin issuance partnership, this time with Hong Kong-based crypto exchange and platform OSL Group. The two companies announced on Thursday that OSL has selected Anchorage to issue its new U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, USDGO.
The joint statement emphasized that this marks "the first and only stablecoin issuance solution under direct federal oversight." This deal follows a similar arrangement in September, when Tether selected Anchorage to issue USAT, a stablecoin specifically designed for the U.S. market. While Tether's USDT dominates the global stablecoin market with $186 billion in circulation, it has been unable to directly access the U.S. market, highlighting the niche Anchorage is filling.
An Anchorage spokesperson credited the bank's unique regulatory status for attracting partners, stating, "Our status as the only U.S. federally chartered stablecoin issuer gives industry leaders like OSL the regulatory certainty they need." The company aims to play a central role in "on-shoring the global stablecoin industry by moving issuance into a fully regulated U.S. bank environment."
Nathan McCauley, co-Founder and CEO of Anchorage Digital, underscored this point: "When institutions look at crypto, the first question they ask is simple: 'Who regulates you?' Our federal bank charter is the answer." The partnership is framed around a shared long-term vision for building programmable, borderless settlement systems within regulated frameworks.
OSL Group, described as Asia's leading stablecoin trading and payment platform, will leverage Anchorage's federally regulated infrastructure for USDGO. The stablecoin will be backed 1:1 by liquid assets and U.S. Treasuries, with the platform offering end-to-end issuance on any blockchain, alongside AML/KYC and asset protection services. Anchorage Digital, valued at over $3 billion following a 2021 funding round, continues to build its track record with major crypto-native and traditional financial players.
