Ripple has achieved a significant milestone in European banking integration with AMINA Bank AG, a regulated Swiss crypto bank, becoming the first European financial institution to officially launch Ripple Payments. This partnership establishes a crucial bridge between traditional banking infrastructure and blockchain technology, specifically designed to serve crypto-native clients.
The integration addresses long-standing friction points for crypto companies operating with legacy banking systems, particularly for cross-border stablecoin transfers and global settlements. Myles Harrison, Chief Product Officer at AMINA Bank, explained that traditional correspondent banking networks were not built to handle digital assets, creating operational hurdles.
By connecting directly to Ripple's licensed infrastructure, AMINA Bank can now route transactions simultaneously through both fiat and stablecoin channels. This enables faster fund movement, reduced costs, improved transparency, and increased reliability for cross-border payments. Harrison stated this upgrade provides AMINA's clients with a competitive advantage as web3 businesses expand globally.
Cassie Craddock, Ripple's Managing Director for the UK and Europe, emphasized that AMINA Bank now serves as an "on-ramp" for innovators needing access to traditional financial infrastructure. She highlighted Ripple's technology enables banks to support multi-currency payouts and stablecoin operations within a compliant framework.
The partnership builds upon AMINA Bank's earlier adoption of Ripple's stablecoin, RLUSD. Ripple Payments currently processes over $95 billion in volume and covers more than 90% of global foreign exchange corridors. This development strengthens Ripple's European presence as MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) regulations create clearer pathways for licensed digital asset activities.
AMINA Bank, founded in Zug, Switzerland in April 2018, received its FINMA banking license in 2019 and has since gained additional regulatory approvals in Hong Kong and the EU under MiCA. The Ripple integration layers advanced payments infrastructure on top of these licenses, positioning AMINA with one of Europe's most sophisticated crypto-banking stacks.
